Bush: "… the actions of a few do not reflect on the fantastic character of the over 200,000 men and women who have served our nation" We can’t blame these individuals for what happened. They were set up.<br /> I’m not excusing what the abusers did, but if you or I was put in a “war” situation and told to guard enemy prisoners, what would happen? Refer to the famous Stanford Prison experiment from 1971 http://www.prisonexp.org/<br />The US government knew what would happen, and they set up the prison without taking adequate precautions against it. Prison abuse isn’t new, it happens unless specific measures are taken to prevent it. While the abusers must be held accountable for their actions, I believe that the people in charge (i.e. Rumsfeld) are even more to blame, not only for the damage to the abused, but for the damage to the abusers who now have to live with what they did. <br />I don’t care if Rumsfeld didn’t see pictures or get reports.
